What to expect from your newborn studio photoshoot.
Nothing can prepare you for the first few weeks of your baby’s life. The overwhelming love you have for this tiny, fragile little human. The way they look, the way they smell, the way they sleep so snugly in your arms! They will without doubt be among the most incredible weeks of your life. And that’s why newborn photography is such a priceless thing to have.
Because with your brain foggy from sleep-deprivation, so much of this will be lost to memory. But newborn photography captures this precious, fleeting time in your lives and keeps it safe.
But once you’ve decided to have a newborn photoshoot, you still have a big decision to make. Do you have your shoot at home or in a studio? And it’s a tricky choice. Because leaving the house with a newborn baby can seem a bit daunting. But my studio sessions are amazing! Genuinely such a relaxing, calming, intimate bonding experience for you and your new little family.
So I thought I’d paint a picture for you of what my studio sessions are like. All the good bits, things to think about and what to expect. Just so you can imagine what the experience will be like, and decide if it’s the right choice for you.
The newborn photography studio experience
For most parents, a studio photoshoot will be the first time leaving the house with their baby. And I completely get that this can be quite nerve racking. Especially for first time parents. That’s why I like to make the whole experience as relaxing, easy and enjoyable as possible for you.
As soon as you walk into my photography studio, you’ll be greeted with the smell of aromatherapy oils and the sounds of soft melodies. You’ll breathe a nice deep breath and feel instantly calm! I really want my studio to feel like a home away from home for you and your baby. So that you can just relax, soak it all in and enjoy some quality time together.
My sessions are baby-led. So there’ll be plenty of time to settle, change and feed them without you having to stress about the clock. And this gives you all the time in the world to enjoy the experience as a family and get as many sleepy cuddles as you like!
The actual photography part of my newborn photography!
My studio is filled with warm, earthy tones and light shades. It’s uncluttered and minimal, and just perfect for photos! And it’s absolutely flooded with natural light. Giving you light, airy, timelessly stylish photos that will look gorgeous on the walls of your house for years to come.
I stay away from fussy outfits and silly props, too. So that the focus is completely on you and your beautiful new baby.
I usually start the session with your baby, so that we can capture all those wonderfully sleepy shots. We’ll then move on to individual shots with you and your baby, capturing your bond with each other. The way they fit in the palms of your hands, the skin-to-skin moments. And then if there are any siblings, dogs we’ll get some lovely shots of them together. Then finally, we’ll end with family shots of you all together as a new little team.
But as I said, my sessions are baby-led. So I’ll never stick strictly to a schedule. Wherever the baby leads us, we will follow! Just as long as your child is happy and safe, you can enjoy the experience and I’ll capture it for you.
The last thing you want in the first few weeks of your baby’s life is to have loads of things to think about. So I like to make my newborn studio sessions as easy and stress-free as possible for you.
You’ll have free access to my full client wardrobe for mum and baby. So you don’t have to worry about finding something that fits or deciding what to wear. I have plenty of post-natal dresses and newborn baby outfits that will photograph beautifully. So all you have to do is take care of your baby, and I’ll take care of the rest.
I also send out a newborn preparation guide to you once you’ve booked a session. This is filled with all the information you need and answers any questions you might have. Just so that the whole process is as clear and simple as possible for you.
When you book your newborn photoshoot
That super-sleepy, adorable, cupid-bow-lips and peach-fuzz-cheeks phase is the perfect window for photographs! But this newborn stage only lasts for around two weeks.
So I always recommend booking your session two weeks after your due date. I know that babies don’t always come on time though! So I am flexible, and can move the date around for you if necessary according to when you’ve given birth.
After your session, I’ll usually get your beautiful, fully-edited images back to you within around three weeks. And even in that short space of time, your baby will have changed so much! And just looking through the photos will bring back so many memories of that amazing newborn stage! So beware, you will cry when you see them!
